London City Airport (LCY) Traveller’s Guide
A journey from the South Coast to London City Airport (LCY) is uniquely challenging due to its location in the heart of East London’s Royal Docks. Typically, the drive from Bournemouth or Poole takes approximately 3 hours, but it is highly sensitive to traffic conditions. Unlike other major airports, LCY offers very few ‘escape routes’ when congestion hits; we are either reliant on the M25 and the Dartford Crossing or forced through the permanently busy streets of Central London.
Because there is virtually no viable alternative to bypass heavy traffic once we enter the Greater London area, I always recommend a generous time buffer for your flight. To make this long and often stop-start journey more comfortable, I am happy to include a refreshment break along the way. My priority is to manage the complex navigation and timing, allowing you to relax or work in the back of the vehicle while we navigate the most unpredictable route in our portfolio.
Drop-Off & Pick-Up at Airport
Navigating the arrival and departure zones at London City Airport (LCY) requires precise timing due to the terminal’s compact layout and strict local regulations.
Currently, terminal drop-off is free of charge, allowing me to set you down directly in front of the terminal building for a quick and easy entrance to check-in. However, please be aware that the airport authorities have already announced plans to introduce a mandatory drop-off fee in the near future. I monitor these updates daily and will adjust this information and our booking terms as soon as the new charging scheme is implemented.
For return journeys, pick-up directly at the terminal kerbside is strictly prohibited. All passenger collections must take place in the Short Stay Car Park, located just a short walk from the arrivals hall. This area has a strict 20-minute time limit, making it essential that we coordinate your exit from the terminal via SMS or phone call to ensure a seamless and prompt departure back to Dorset.

For your total convenience and to ensure a seamless departure, this fee is already included in your booking price. There are no hidden costs or extra payments required upon arrival—I will handle the airport charges while you enjoy a stress-free, “door-to-door” service directly to the check-in hall.

Pick-Up at the Terminal
Please note that passenger collection directly at the terminal kerbside is strictly prohibited at London City Airport. All pick-ups must take place in the Short Stay Car Park, which has a strict 20-minute time limit. To ensure a smooth transition, I have a specific coordination process:
- Notification: Please send me a text message or call me as soon as you have collected your luggage and are ready for pick-up.
- Meeting Point: Kindly wait at the Pret A Manger store inside the terminal.
- My Service: Once I receive your message, I will enter the car park, walk into the terminal to meet you at Pret A Manger, and provide full assistance with your luggage.
This process allows us to manage the strict parking limits efficiently while ensuring you don’t have to navigate the car park with your bags alone.
Please be advised that London City Airport charges a mandatory £8 terminal drop-off fee for 20 minutes. For your total convenience and to ensure a seamless departure, this fee is already included in your booking price. There are no hidden costs or extra payments required upon arrival.
Meet & Greet Service
For a seamless and stress-free arrival at London City Airport, I offer a dedicated Meet & Greet service. I will be waiting for you inside the terminal building at the Pret A Manger store, holding a digital tablet clearly displaying your name.
This service is provided for a £15 fee, which is already included in your total transfer price for complete transparency. To allow for potential delays at passport control or baggage reclaim, the service includes 60 minutes of waiting time. Once we meet at the designated point, I will assist you with your luggage and guide you to the vehicle parked in the adjacent Short Stay area. This is the most comfortable way to transition from your flight to your chauffeur-driven journey back to Bournemouth, ensuring no time is wasted searching for your car.
